Not a domaine wine but one made in partnership with the American importer Eric Solomon, the 2019 Côté d Est Grenache Chardonnay Rolle sees nothing but stainless steel in the winery. Zesty and fresh, this medium-bodied blend is 50% Grenache, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Rolle (Vermentino). Hints of lime zest, tangerine and melon appear on the nose and palate, finishing clean and refreshing. Sold at a very reasonable price, it s a fun, lively white for drinking in its first year.
Winemaker Notes
Côté Est, as the name suggests, comes from vineyards planted on the gentle slopes facing the Mediterranean just a few kilometers inland from the sea. Benefiting from the thermal breezes that refresh these vineyards every afternoon in the summer – which preserves a high level of natural acidity in the grapes – this is a lively blend of old vine Grenache Blanc with Chardonnay and Rolle. Floral and aromatic, it is an excellent example of the open and friendly whites you can find all along the Catalan coast from Perpignan to the Penedès.
